Nicholas Granby originally worked in the film and video industry in the U.K., as a writer, director and producer, (last was 'Closed Circuit' Award-winning cinema short with the backing of Channel 4 & British Screen Finance) as well as dabbling in the theatre. His move to Milan, Italy in 1990 gave him opportunities to increase his theatrical activities, and to develop his acting abilities.

He conceived of the idea of adapting short Zen stories for the stage "They go back even into the distant past, but are just as powerfully relevant today", he says. "These 'sketches' each have a moral, a type of punchline, that have the aim of bringing the thinking mind to a stop, similar to Zen meditation, when one can then experience direct 'oneness' with our Inner Self".
