Theatre in Education

We feel strongly that the road to integration between nations lies through shared culture and art rather than simply through politics and economics. Our aim, therefore, is to promote important values such as love, respect, tolerance and self-awareness within our society, not only in performance, but also through our theatre workshops and work with schools.
Dramatic expression is an ideal instrument for addressing the following needs of high-school students:

- Improving oral ability and fluency in languages
- Speaking in a group
- Articulating thought
- Use of larger and more precise vocabulary
- Involvement of all participants in a common project
- Development of respect for others
- Improvement of attention and listening skills
- Discovery and use of physical expression
- Increased self-confidence

After six successful tour productions which included performances for schools in Italy, UK and Austria, TEV offers two additional elements specifically for schools:

Interactive Workshops
(by arrangement before and after performances)

The Theatre Workshops conducted by members of the TEV Company stimulate language learning, complementing classroom work. The aim is to activate creative expression and oral ability in English through exercises and improvisations. The physical and vocal activities will be built around the roles and situations of its current production. Participants of different age groups and language ability will be set appropriate interactive tasks aimed at developing their communicative skills. The intension is not to transform the students into actors, but to improve their speaking and writing while encouraging an active interest in theatre work.
Teacher/Student Information Pack
Students should be familiarized with the character and story-line of the production before the performance. Theaters are invited to make use of classroom materials available from TEV. The package includes A4 handouts with information about the characters, the story-line, the author and historical background. A variety of worksheets in English, suitable for all levels of language ability are also included. The object of this material is to prepare and motivate students for the performance.
